C. Mahalingam (Mali) is an Executive Coach and HR Advisor and consults in the areas of HR transformation and leadership development. Prior to assuming this role a year ago, Mali was with Symphony Teleca Corporation as its Executive Vice President & Global Chief People Officer for over 7 years. In this role, Mali’s role was a business leader responsible for people function, Innovation program and corporate communication besides being a Director on the Boards of Symphony entities in India, UK, Japan, China and France. Mali established the China operations for Symphony Services and managed this as a profit center for a year.
Prior to this, he was Vice President-HR and member, India leadership team with IBM India/South Asia, Vice President-HR with Hewlett-Packard India and HR Director with Royal Philips Electronics India for their Software Division. Mali was extensively involved for over 15 years in establishing and driving leadership development and building bench strength for each of these companies. Before moving to IBM, Mali was heading the HR function for Nuclear Power Corporation, Mumbai.
With over 30 years of rich experience in HR, Mali’s experience encompasses establishing a robust HR architecture for organizations, building competent HR teams, designing and delivering high impact HR systems and processes and developing HR scorecards to measure the business impact of HR investments. Mali’s strengths include building strategic organization capabilities.
Mali is active professionally. He is the immediate past President of National HRD Network, Bangalore Chapter,President of Karnataka IT HR Association, member of NASSCOM Mentor Panel for the CEO of SMEs and a member of National HR & Leadership Committee of Confederation of Indian Industry. He is one of the 4 architects of the HR Competency Framework designed under the aegis of CII and NHRD. As a certified auditor for European Quality Award, Mali has audited several Philips organizations worldwide during his stint with Philips.
Mali teaches leadership courses at leading B-Schools like IIM-B, IIM-Ranchi and IIM-Tiruchirapalli, Norsee Monjee Institute (NMIMS), Symbiosis Institute (SIBM) besides being on the Board of Studies of many of the leading B-Schools.
Mali is a seasoned certified executive coach and helps successful senior executives become even more successful with focused coaching. He has done CXO level coaching for senior executives in both IT and non-IT companies, one of the big four consulting firms, and a e-business start-up. Mali also delivered Group coaching to 18 Principles / Center Heads of a large Technical training School spread across the country. In the last 12 months, Mali has completed over 20 coaching assignments of CXOs that include CEOs, CFO, Director-Marketing, VP –HR, Director-HR and SVP of Engineering for a product software company.
A thought leader, Mali has published over 320 articles on HR, leadership, Innovation and related subjects in leading journals and newspapers.
Mali has a bachelor’s degree in commerce which he passed with A. L. Mudaliar Gold Medal for the best all round performance in the college and Master’s degree in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations from the autonomous Loyola College which he passed out with the Golden Jubilee Gold Medal.
